WCA Update: Week of May 18, 2020

A Family Update

From the Capobianco family, Sarita, Alessandro, and Vince in the fifth grade.

Our new daily norm for our family is that with four boys they are on their zoom classes for the majority of the morning and early afternoon. In the afternoon we usually go outside for a hike or work in our yard. We have some new baby chickens that we are working on building a coop for and also doing a lot of projects around the house. Vince recently got a new bike so he has been spending a lot of time biking around our neighborhood and playing with his dogs. (more…)

Please, if you haven’t received it already, continue to watch for a sweet greeting from your WCA to your front doorstep in the coming days and weeks. If you live very far away from school you might find a treat in your mailbox instead!

WCA Update for Week of February 24

Waldorf Community Association update week of Feb. 24

The WCA presents our Lending Library at school! In the common area, you will see a new shelf (installed by our own Jack Hogan and Ken Katz) below the existing one, that is filling up fast with Waldorf inspired books, publications, and articles. There is a sign out binder available so that adults may check out any of the reading materials and return when you are finished. Thanks to all who have donated items for the library and we welcome suggestions for additions to our collection. We ask that our borrowers return the materials in a timely manner so that others may enjoy the information available. Two-week check-outs are suggested.

The Pie Auction is coming up. If you would like to help us with the planning and executing of the evenings events please let us know with a simple email to wca@waldorfmoraine.org

Contribute to Faculty & Staff Lunch
Thursday, February 27 • 11 AM – 3 PM
Every month, members of the WCA share in the joy of preparing and serving a warm lunch for our beloved faculty and staff. Last month was a Chinese New Year’s themed feast, and this month is Mediterranean!

It’s not too late to join in on the fun. Each participant picks a recipe to prepare and drops it off in the downstairs kitchen on the morning of the meal. If you would like to make something please contact Jessica Brand Alves at brand.jessica@gmail.com.

New EC playground inauguration

New EC playground inauguration

Tuesday, February 4th was the first day for EC children to use their brand-new playground located at the back of the school, adjacent to the existing nursery playground. Included in the playground is a play structure, a mini-house, and a sandpit. Mrs. Hill’s parent and child class were the first to break the playground in and by the happy looks on all of the children’s faces, the inaugural use was a huge success! This playground is currently being used by parent and child, Snowdrop and aftercare classes. (more…)

Last week we enjoyed a Natural Cleaning class hosted by the WCA. In this case, we were taught by the parents, for the parents. We reviewed homemade cleaning products and made samples to take home. We shared ideas about keeping our homes clean and non-toxic. Jamie Carbone won our raffle basket of natural homemaking items. Thank you to all who contributed and inspired our efforts.
