8th Grade Presentations • Watch Live!

Please join us on Tuesday, June 2 at 6:30 PM for the 8th-grade project presentations.

Students will individually present projects which they have been working on since September. Students have been working with mentors from our community, supported by their teachers to plan, design, undertake and present these unique and self-directed projects.

Stars Across the Communities

Inspired by Denver Waldorf School, we – and many Waldorf schools across North America – are inviting our families to create simple paper stars to be hung in your windows providing color, beauty, and joy.

We offered star-making kits to our families on our weekend pick-up. If you didn’t have an opportunity to pick up the materials but have tissue paper and glue sticks at home, you can download the instructions here: Waldorf Window Stars (pdf).

Once you have your stars up, please email us your pictures or post them on our community Facebook group. We’d love to see them!

A Tale of Two Clefs • No. 4

Head over to our Community Facebook page to view another precious video of 1st grader, Jack, performing his very own story. Ms. Smith has asked 1st and 2nd-grade students to select an instrument and create a story involving the Treble Clef and the Bass Clef, along with various elements of nature. What a creative assignment!

Well done, Jack. Encore!

Summer Program & Camp Update

While it is difficult to look too far ahead, please know that we continue to make plans and have some exciting offerings for the summer! This includes summer camp for 7-12-year-olds, and our early childhood summer program for 3.5-6-year-olds. Being able to spend time outside on our beautiful Moraine Farm campus with friends both new and old, is something we can all look forward to!

We will continue to offer programs based on recommendations received from the CDC and state health authorities. We are in good communication with these agencies and will keep the community up to date if any changes are made. If we need to cancel or delay the start of this year’s camp season, this would happen no later than one month prior to camp start date. Should this become necessary, all fees will be refunded.

In an effort to encourage families to register please know that we want to work with you and we can be flexible with the payment options. If anyone needs to cancel their registration for summer camps and programs within 4 weeks of the camp start date, there will be a $45.95 fee charged per week.

Check our Summer Camp page for all the details and registration information!

If you have any questions contact Coleen Ryan at cryan@waldorfmoraine.org.

Lessons in ✨ Magic

Our middle school students have been deeply invested in their current reading of A Witch’s Kitchen. (Check out their character drawings below!) And, with great glee, they all received a very special guest in their Zoom class this week – Dianna Sanchez, the author. Dianna visited with each middle school class via Zoom and did a reading from her book, answered ALL the students’ questions, and did a short writing exercise with them about “reversals.” (The students had to imagine a rule they would like to have in reverse, and then write about it. For example, instead of not being allowed to have candy before dinner, as she explained, what if a rule existed that stated YOU MUST EAT CANDY BEFORE DINNER!)

We are all grateful to Dianna Sanchez for the incredible visits. And feeling thankful for faculty member Amanda Wiederhold for her creative lessons and connections in bringing in some really fantastic (pun intended?) guest experts.

We Are Part of History • Recording Our Experiences

During the next two weeks, CARE Class students will be recording their experiences at home during this unprecedented time of the Coronavirus outbreak. Using a resource created by graphic designer and mom, Natalie Long, students can record thoughts, feelings, and experiences through writing and artwork. I am offering this resource to the wider community as well for those who may be interested in participating. I recently discovered that a second version of the packet has been released so that kids and adults now have their own versions to work through!

Downloadable versions of the packets can be found here:

Feel free to share any of your work with me at breed@waldorfmoraine.org. I will collect community responses to create a record of experiences from our WSMF community.

Be well!
