During the pandemic, families around the country have needed to increase the use of devices and technology in their homes and with their children. Technology has enabled us to work from home, teach/learn remotely, and provide rich media resources for young learners. As we enter into the summer months, we gently encourage every WSMF family to reevaluate the quantity, quality, and use of technology in their homes. Summer weather makes this a perfect time to pare back on technology used by your child. Please check out these two great resources for more information on technology use and children.

Introducing New Monthly Curriculum Report

Each month during the school year, our teachers take the time to prepare an in-depth monthly report for parents. Each document provides insights into what the students are learning and engaging in. In the past, these reports have been sent individually via email to class parents. Now we are taking all of the reports and consolidating them into a single interactive 3D booklet for all to appreciate and enjoy. We invite you to peruse the report and see what all of the grades are up to!

These Monthly Curriculum Reports will live permanently on the website at WaldorfMoraine.org/Reports. You’re more than welcome to share the link with your friends and family. Doing so will shine a light on the incredible work our students and teachers are doing on a monthly (and daily) basis and give prospective families a glimpse of what makes a Waldorf education so special.

Parent Handwork Prepares for Spring Cleaning

Get yourself ready for spring cleaning at our next Parent Handwork gathering on Friday, June 4! No experience needed. We will be making knitted or crocheted cotton dishcloths. All materials provided.

Join us any Friday after drop-off at 8:10 AM.

Heather Collis Puro, Handwork Teacher will be hosting. Meet us on the quad, and children are welcome during the sessions. It has been fun to sit and make things together these last few weeks! Come each week or drop in as you are able. Any maker in search of camaraderie is invited to bring their own projects to work on – the more the merrier! Questions? Today’s live webinar is about best practices for technology use for families with students in grades 2–5. Please join us as we talk about “family tech contracts,” safe use of technology at home, and what the research is stating about children’s development in a world saturated with technology.

This Thursday — 8th Grade Project Presentations

You’re Invited

8th-Grade Project Presentations
Thursday • May 6 • 6:00 PM

Please join us for the 8th-grade project presentations outdoors on David’s Court this Thursday at 6:00 PM.

Students will individually present projects which they have been working on since September. Students have been working with mentors from our community, supported by their teachers to plan, design, undertake and present these unique and self-directed projects.

This year’s program includes:

  • Haohan Hu — The Generation and Transformation of Gems and Rocks
  • Vaugn Reed — Dedication through basketball
  • Etta Spodick — Digital Fashion Design and Production
  • Emma Schaeffer — Wire Wrapped Jewelry
  • Ayo Thompson — Contrast and Opposites in Photography

All are welcome to attend! Each presentation is about 10 minutes, with the entire event running between 1½ to 2 hours.

Note: This is an outdoor event and we ask everyone to be masked and socially distanced.
