This past week the Grade 2 class delighted audiences with their performance of The Cat Who Walks by Herself. Full of humor and insight, this play told the story of how humans learned to cohabitate with animals– and how some animals, are just too independent to be tamed!

Each student worked hard to memorize lines and cues, resulting in a brilliant production. The show included standout performances from Everly in the role of the titular cat, and Ivy in the role of a woman. They were supported by an incredibly talented cast (Paige, Lillian, Poyraz and Tucker), each of whom brought their characters to life and the audience to its feet!

Bravo!

WSMF Community Comes Together in Support of Ukrainian Refugees

March 18th, 2022 | Announcements

[et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ _builder_version=”3.22″][et_pb_row _builder_version=”3.25″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”3.25″ custom_padding=”|||” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.9.3″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat”]

It all started with a pair of boots.

When 8th grade student Velia received a pair of boots that didn’t fit properly as a gift, she didn’t want them to go to waste. Velia decided she’d like to send the boots to a Ukrainian refugee in need, so her mother Linda agreed to find a way to send them. Through her own networks, Linda was able to reach an NGO coordinator named Cosmin, in Romania, who agreed to help direct the boots to one of the many refugees his organization was helping on a daily basis.

Inspired by Velia’s determination to do good, Linda decided to reach out the school community to see if anyone else would like to contribute anything to help out– Cosmin had shared that there was a need for sleeping bags, jackets, hats, gloves, mittens, and more. While she knew the WSMF community was caring, she never could have anticipated the outpouring of support she would get in response!

Throughout the week donations came pouring in! Boxes, bags, and armfuls of blankets, coats, and more were brought in by community members who were eager to do their part. In order to process the overwhelming number of items to be sent, Linda partnered with another activist named Biker Bob who has deep connections to the Ukraine, and who was regularly sending support to refugees in Poland.

With the help of Cosmin and Biker Bob, our community was able send much needed supplies to Ukrainian Refugees in both Romania and Poland. We continue to be amazed by the compassion and generosity of our friends here at WSMF, and are grateful to Velia and Linda who started this amazing effort.

Fun With First Grade

-Did you know that you can develop fine motor skills AND executive functioning through drawing? The first grade class has been doing just that while working through a form drawing unit. In the process they’ve also produced some beautiful artwork for their classroom!

-Waldorf Education builds intuitive understanding of topics through storytelling. The first graders are learning about math processes– addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division– through the imaginative tale of Mul de Plier and her friends Addy Plus, Minus Miner, and Prince Divider.

Adventures with Class 3/4

-Third and fourth graders are gearing up for their big farm trip in March and simultaneously expanding their understanding of grammar by reading Farmer Boy, a book about life on a farm in 1864. They’re so excited to see how farm life has– and hasn’t– changed since then!

-In handwork, Class 3/4 is building cross cultural connections and understandings. They’ve learned songs and stories highlighting the ways that various groups of people engage with the natural materials of our world.
