Waldorf Community Association update week of December 16

Thanks to the Enchanted Fair we managed to sneak in one hearty parent handwork session last week. With a good turnout, we pulled up extra chairs in the community space, enjoyed some good laughs and made some treasures for our fair. Thanks to all who were there. Thanks to those who wanted to be there and thanks to those who will find themselves there soon after our mid-year break! It’s true. We are likely to have parent handwork again next semester. Watch this space for more information.

Monthly Meeting Snippet

We also held our fourth monthly WCA meeting on the evening of Tuesday, December 10. We discussed upcoming events and signed up to help plan and run these events. We handed out articles about the four temperaments, Sanguine, Choleric, Melancholic and Phlegmatic, which are the characteristics we display in our personality in varying degrees of balance. If you wish to read further, let us know. Not all the articles have shareable links but we can help you find them.

Breaking Bread Before Break

Friday, December 20, 1:00 pm and 2:45 pm dismissal times, in the community space
Raise your hand if you enjoy warm bread with honey butter coupled with hot cider or cocoa. That’s what WCA will provide the day we all part ways for the mid-year break. Stop by the Community Space for good wishes and a bit of nourishment from our ovens and our hearts. Gluten-Free will be provided.

Next WCA General Meeting

Tuesday, Jan 14, 8:15 am – 10:00 am, in the Trayes Room
At every meeting, we give you an article that is of interest to you. We have crafting and idea exchanges and snacks and social time. We offer this helpful reminder- we alternate our meetings each month between evening times and morning times to help accommodate as many of you as possible and we provide childcare free of charge at our evening meetings. Class Parents are graciously requested to attend at least one meeting in the fall semester and one meeting in the spring semester and meeting minutes will always find a path back to all parents through their designated class parents.

Eurythmy for Parents

Thursday, January 30, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm in the Trayes Room (childcare provided).
You won’t want to miss this. Eurythmy is an expressive movement art that originated with Rudolf Steiner. It is typically part of a full Waldorf educational curriculum. Waldorf School at Moraine Farm currently does not include this valuable work. Come learn why it is vital to our children’s development. We’ll learn from an expert all about Eurythmy and how it can help children as well as participating in some yourself. If you would like to utilize the childcare, please RSVP to wca@waldorfmoraine.org to help us plan ahead.

Book Group

TBD Saturday in late January or early February

We are reading This Is How It Always Is by Laurie Frankel. We’d love to have you. Invite a friend. Join the conversation by emailing Branigan Reed at breed@waldorfmoraine.org

Eco-Cleaning

Thursday, February 6, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm in the Trayes Room (childcare provided)

We share many interests as a community and one of them is using non-toxic products to keep our homes clean. Come to this fun, parent-led class on environmentally friendly home care solutions in February. Parents can sign up to take home a cleaning recipe, trial it at home and report back to us. Then we will all have a chance to make samples to take home and try for ourselves! We will also raffle off a gift basket of eco-friendly goodies for your home.

And don’t forget:

  • Faculty Lunch – January 31, 2020, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm
  • Pi Day Pie Auction – Saturday, March 14, 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
  • CPR for Parents – a date TBD

Current volunteer opportunities around the school

  • WCA is looking for volunteers to participate on a committee to bring back the cafe. Express your interest in planning this community favorite by emailing wca@waldorfmoraine.org
  • WCA is looking for all of you talented makers among us. There is interest in a Makers’ Fair in which we gather and celebrate those of us who make our own crafts, remedies, knitted things, household cleaners, etc. We will hear from each other about why we do what we do, how we came to decide to make what we make and how we can support each other, the ultimate local business model!
  • WCA wants you to let us know what ideas you have by coming to our meetings, dropping a note in the WCA suggestion box in the Community Space or any other preferred form of communication.

Lastly, but not least, we share the verse we speak at each meeting…

“A healthy social life is found only when, in the mirror of each soul, the whole community finds its reflection, and when, in the whole community, the virtue of each one is living.”

– Rudolf Steiner
