Getting back into the swing.
It’s that time again. We have all been working to get back into the school year rhythms as we embark on this next academic year. Earlier bedtimes, morning lunch making, and carpools are again part of our routines. Welcome back!
As the new chairperson that guides the WCA events, the task before me is to enliven and nurture a healthy social culture among faculty, staff and families, to provide a channel through which the parent body can express our unique needs and interests and to present educational topics throughout the year that harness those interests.
We will be holding several events throughout the year to try to do just that. We will also call on you at times to provide opinion, parent perspective, and sometimes a little muscle around the school. Social events will include crafting sessions, sing-a-longs and volunteer efforts. Educational events will include categories like Health and Wellness, Waldorf Philosophy, and Crafts and Gardening.
Look to this space weekly for updates and news about what’s important for you to know about what’s happening at the campus as well as the many different ways you can involve yourself as a parent in our school community.
Last week’s ice cream social was again a great success and offered our community its annual excuse to socialize and eat lots of ice cream. Everybody left happy. Thanks to Larissa Mills, Paulee McCormack, Megan Hogan, Anita Haller-O’Neill, Heidi Zohn, and Vanya Yoors for all their help in making it happen. Also a special thanks to Farmers to You for donating the Vermont-made caramel sauce and organic dark chocolate chips.
In August we held an event to welcome our new early childhood parents and pair them up with their “buddy families”, seasoned families who will mentor them through their initial school experiences. They have made themselves available to help make school parent life easier. So if you have been paired with a family, please do not hesitate to call them. They want to hear from you!
Save the date: Our first educational event will take place Thursday evening, October 4th in the Trayes Room (time TBD). Presented by Farmers To You co-founder Greg Georgaklis, it will be a talk about biodynamics and feeding your family in a sustainable way.
