Chase the Chill is an organization of volunteer makers that gather, knit and sew hats, mittens, blankets and scarves to give to families and individuals in need, many who are homeless. For several years, volunteers have organized “scarf bombing” events in Salem or Lynn with centrally located outdoor displays of donated items welcoming everyone to take what they need. To see a video of past events you can follow this link.
This year’s scarf bombing event has been scheduled for February, and families are in need of warm items to carry them through the winter months. Priority items are hats, scarves, and items that are sized and in suitable colors for men. Last year, our community collected and made over 100 items to donate to Chase the Chill.
Heather Collis Puro, the grade school handwork teacher, is collecting items to pass on to Chase the Chill. There is a donation box outside the main office. Items may be purchased or handmade, and gently worn items are suitable as well. Drop in to any of our Thursday Morning Community Handwork Events and learn to knit to help the cause. Sewing patterns and lists of items needed can be found on the website www.ChasetheChillLynnMA.com. We will also be holding a fleece hat and mitten sewing event at our School on Sunday, February 6 at 11 am. Sewing machines and all materials will be provided. If you are interested in participating or donating materials, please feel free to contact Heather Collis Puro at hcollispuro@waldorfmoraine.org or call 781-775-3942.
