Calling all volunteers and their families to come out Sunday, April 28, to participate in our annual Spring Clean Up Day and to help begin the restoration of our campus Earth Oven. Arrive between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. with a rake and work gloves and we’ll all do our part to give our outdoor grounds a spring-cleaning. This is your chance to literally have a hand in shaping our community. We will help re-rope the first and second grade playground area and help with many other tasks. Among those tasks is an opportunity to practice making your own earth oven.
The WCA along with the school’s Outdoor Life Committee will start that day to take on the project of restoring the school’s earth oven located just inside the traffic circle. Once completed, the oven will again be a source of warmth, help foster community, and produce freshly baked bread! Please consider taking part in this group that will bring the oven back to life. Tasks will involve design input, working a lot of with your hands, and stomping out the clay foundation mixture. During the April 28th clean up day, we’ll first learn about the ancient history and roles of earth ovens and then make a small oven that you can take home. The following weekend, May 4-5, we will begin to rebuild our school earth oven based on what we learned the week before. Friends and alumni are welcome. Materials will be sourced as naturally and locally as possible. Please contact Linda Wrinn at email@example.com if you have any questions.
