The Snow Leopard Trust is a non-profit organization that aims to protect the endangered snow leopard through community-based conservation projects that are based on an improved scientific understanding of snow leopard behavior, needs, habitats and threats.
The Snow Leopard Trust encourages and empowers people who live in the cat’s habitat to help protect their local wildlife and ecosystems.
Many of the families living in snow leopard habitat are herders who live on less than $2 per day and depend on their livestock for food and income. The snow leopard occasionally attacks and kills livestock, and members of these low-income communities sometimes resort to retaliation killings or poaching of snow leopards to protect their herds of livestock or earn extra money.
Our community-based conservation programs aim to break this cycle of poverty and create incentives for herders to protect local wildlife and ecosystems.
Snow Leopard Enterprises is an award-winning, conservation-focused handicrafts brand that helps create sustainable economic opportunities for families in snow leopard habitat and reduce the motivation behind poaching
Jennifer Snell Rullman, parent of a fifth grader at Waldorf, has been the Assistant Conservation Director – implementing this program since 2003. Come purchase products made by these herding families in Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan to support snow leopards. The products are amazing – the stories of the people and the cats behind the product are simply unbelievable and inspiring.
