Adult Speaker Series

Film Screening:  Beyond Measure

October 22, 2015, at 7PM

What if our education system valued personal growth over test scores? Put inquiry over mimicry? Encouraged passion over rankings? What if we decided that the higher aim of school was not the transmission of facts or formulas, but the transformation of every student?

Please join the WCA on Thursday, Oct. 22 for a screening of the new film, Beyond Measure, from the makers of Race to Nowhere. More at:

Tending the Roots of Sustainability: Education and our Responsibility to Children and the Earth

November 9, 2015; 7:30PM

Guest Speaker:  Craig Holdrege, PhD—biologist, educator, and director of The Nature Institute

Can education stimulate students to engage in the world around them, and to later take responsibility for the way humanity affects nature? How can science education facilitate this process of active, exploratory, context-sensitive learning? Craig Holdrege will explore these questions and share with us many practical examples.
